I decided back at the end of February 2004 that enough was enough. I had been feeling overweight for years, and I was only 29. Whenever I showed someone my pictures from high school or college, they couldn't believe it was the same person because I was so much skinnier back then. I was using food as a tool of comfort, eating when I had nothing else to do, or using it as a reward after a tough day. Unfortunately, though, I got a little too lenient with judging which days were "tough."
My name is Chris, and I'm a single guy with no kids. I live a thousand miles from most of my friends and family back in New York and New Jersey, as I moved to Nashville last year for a new career opportunity as a marketing executive. I love to read, watch good movies, hike, volunteer, and study philosophy, but one of my main problems is that I work long hours, and that doesn't leave a whole lot of time for cooking healthy meals. Some days I find myself coming home late—and starving. I don't know about you, but I really don't feel like cooking myself a meal after working 12 hours! Therefore, I was eating a lot of take-out and dining out almost every night.

When I heard about NutriSystem, I thought it was the perfect fit for me. No cooking, just as easy as a TV dinner to make—it doesn't get any better than that! Being able to pop a NutriSystem meal in the microwave and throw together a salad and some veggies takes about ten minutes, tops. And I also love the guilt-free, but delicious desserts. My sweet tooth is very satisfied.
Since starting NutriSystem in February, I've lost 47 pounds, and I've also begun taking much more interest in my health, in general. About a month into my diet, I began working out a few days a week. Trust me, it was difficult at first to get started, but now, after sticking to it for a few months, I am working out five days a week, an hour each day. The exercise definitely helped me speed up the weight loss, and now I'm to the point where I am concentrating on building muscle and really getting into good condition. I'd encourage everyone on the program to find some way to get his or her body in motion on a regular basis after they start to lose a few pounds. It's hard in the beginning, but if you force yourself to do it, you WILL get to the point where you feel like your day is not complete without that bit of exercise.

Were there challenges along the way? Sure. Probably the most difficult part of the journey for me was staying patient during times when the weight loss slowed down. I learned that there are peaks and valleys along the way. The peaks, times when you are losing weight quickly, are very encouraging and they make you feel like you're really making headway. The valleys, times when weight loss slows down, are difficult to get through because you feel like your hard work is not really paying off. But that’s when my counselor, Patrice, came in. Having her check in with me regularly gave me the little extra nudge I needed to know it would all be worth it in the end. In fact, I decided to look at weight loss the same way that I look at the stock market. The work that I'm putting in now is an investment for the future—even if it doesn't pay off right away, it will pay off down the road—and it did.
Now, everyone is amazed at how I've changed. The comment I get most is, "You look like a completely different person." In fact, I recently went to an industry convention where I saw dozens of people that I hadn't seen in six months, and if we weren't required to wear nametags, nobody would have known who I was! It was really great hearing all of the compliments, too, but the best one I've gotten so far was from a colleague who saw my results and decided to sign up for NutriSystem herself.
You know, there's only one way to figure out if you can do something, and that's to try to do it. I highly recommend this diet to anyone who feels like they just don't have enough time to eat right. NutriSystem is just so easy!
